Don't Step Out Of Your Comfort Zone, Expand It

Often, we are told that if we want to do something new, we must step out of our comfort zone. Stepping out of our comfort zone certainly will assist us with doing something new. However, it also means that we have not expanded our comfort zone, but made a temporary attempt to try something different. By expanding our comfort zone, we are able to expand our experiences and become comfortable with the uncomfortable. Each time we expand our comfort zone we expand our ability to make change.

Expanding our comfort zone provides a greater learning opportunity. As we become comfortable with more and more, we expand to greater and greater challenges. We will be constantly moving forward and not just taking one step forward and then one step backwards. Once we expand our comfort zone, we won't be comfortable with where it was. The expanded zone is where we will be comfortable. This creates greater opportunity for growth, learning, and personal development.

Coaching
Don't just step out of your comfort zone to return once again, expand it. Expanding our comfort zone means we learn and grow from new experiences until we become comfortable with them. Once we are comfortable with where our zone is, we can once again embark on expanding it. This creates a model of constant learning, growth and moving forward.

Ways to expand our comfort zones are numerous. A few ideas would be to talk to someone you don't know, read a book about something you know nothing about, or visit an area of your town that you have never been to before. New experiences can expand our comfort zone and introduce us to new skills, ideas, and information.

Daily Action
Make a list of ten things you could do that would expand your comfort zone. These can be anything that would personally cause you to create something new, learn something new, or try something new. Once you have created your list, select one item and do it this week. Once you have become comfortable with this item, choose the next and work through the list until you have expanded your comfort zone ten times!
